The Lincoln Penny was struck from 1909 through the current year 2006. In 1959 the Lincoln Penny was changed from the original reverse, portraying two wheat ears, to the reverse seen on every day pennies portraying the Lincoln Memorial. The Lincoln Penny was designed by Victor D. Brenner (V.D.B.) hence the initials on the ever so sought after 1909 V.D.B. which was minted in San Francisco (1909 S V.D.B.). Along with the 1909 S V.D.B., there are many other rare, sought after varieties and dates such as the 1914 D (Denver Mint), the 1921 Plain, the 1955 Double Die obverse, and other Double Die varieties. The Lincoln Penny was the first cent to portray the motto, IN GOD WE TRUST.
