The Seated Liberty Quarter was stuck between the years 1838 and 1891. The Seated Liberty Quarter was designed by Christian Gobrecht and was composed of .900 silver and .100 copper. In 1838, the value "25c", which was portrayed on the reverse of the early quarters, was change to "QUAR. DOL." It was not until 1892, on the Barber Quarter, when the value was fully spelled out, reading "QUARTER DOLLAR". The Seated Liberty Quarter was affected by the law in 1853, and the weight was reduced. Arrows were place at each side of the date to signify the change. Rays were added to the reverse in 1853 only. The law of 1873 affected the quarters weight again. This increase in weight was also signified by arrows at each side of the date. The Seated Liberty Quarter was replaced by the Barber Quarter in 1892.
