Early quarters were stuck between the years 1796 and 1838. Authorized in 1792, the denomination was not issued until 1796. Early Quarters are composed of .8924 Silver and .1076 Copper. The designers were Robert Scott, John Reich, and William Kneass. Early Quarters were struck in several different varieties, such as the Draped Bust Small Eagle Reverse (1796-1807), the Draped Bust Heraldic Eagle Reverse (1804-1807), and the Capped Bust, variety I Large Diameter (1815-1838) and Variety II, Reduced Diameter (1831-1838). The 1796 Draped Bust Quarter followed the design of the early dimes and half dimes, in which the value was not portrayed on the coin. In 1804, the value "25c" was then added to the reverse and remained through the issue.
