The Seated Liberty Half Dollar was stuck between the years 1839 and 1891. The Seated Liberty Half Dollar, designed by Christian Gobrecht, was composed of .900 silver and .100 copper. In 1838, the value "50 CENTS", which was portrayed on the reverse of the Early Half Dollars, was change to "HALF DOL." in 1839. The new portrayal of the value was kept throughout the Seated Liberty Half Dollar issue. It was not until 1892, on the Barber Half Dollar, when the value was fully spelled out, reading "HALF DOLLAR". The Seated Liberty Half Dollar was affected under the weight standards just as the other denominations and Arrows were place at each side of the date to signify the change. The arrows were used from 1854-1855, and again form 1873 to 1874. The Seated Liberty Half Dollar was replaced by the Barber Half Dollar in 1892.
