The Seated Liberty Dollar, minted from 1840 to 1873, was designed by Christina Gobrecht. The Seated Liberty Silver Dollar has a weight of 26.73 grams and is composed of .900 silver and .100 copper. Shortly after the issue was started, in 1853, due to the rise in Silver prices, the silver value was worth more than the face value of the coin. Few of the later issues made it into circulation. They were used mostly for export trade.
