1886 Seated Liberty Dime Proof NGC PF 66
Rare U.S. dimes (1796 to date) are significant to collectors for earlier dates, which were minted in lower numbers and had weak striking quality. Early Dimes include the Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle Reverse (1798-1807), the Capped Bust, Wide Border (1809-1828), and the Capped Bust, Modified Design (1828-1837). The Seated Liberty (1837-1891) has three varieties - no stars on obverse, stars on obverse, and legend on obverse. The Barber Dime (1892-1916), also known as the Liberty Head, has a few variations marked by the 3 over 2, repunched date, normal ÐOÓ, micro ÐOÓ, and double-die obverse. The Mercury Head (1916-1945), also known as the Winged Liberty Head, has differing features including full bands, small or large mintmarks and double-die obverse. Meanwhile, Roosevelt Dimes (1946 to date), have varying features including D over S, S over D and Double Die Reverse (1963 and 1964).
